Self-Reported Consumption Measures in Sample Surveys: A Simulation Study of Alcohol Consumption

Abstract:Four methods of measuring alcohol consumption by self-report in sample surveys are compared on the basis of simulation studies of the drinking process in human populations. Properties of population estimates and the classification of individuals are considered and the implications of the results for population surveys and epidemiological studies discussed.
