How to Organize Statistical Files

Abstract:
The difficulties entailed in selecting file organizations for statistical data are described, and an analytical tool to help predict file organization performance is outlined. An extended version of the tool is also presented which can deal, by means of tools from fuzzy logic, with performance estimation when the model specifications are not known with total certainty or reliability. The importance of such tools in expert systems for physical database design is discussed.
